Why do people love us

‘Why do people love us? We are always trying to figure that out, but only by using our own point of view. That way is so limited. Sometimes they love us for things we don’t even know about ourselves. For example they love our hands. My *hands*? Why would anyone love my hands? But they’ve got their reasons why. You must accept that and realize the person they know and love is different from the one you know.’

As life goes on its merry and hectic way we get lost in the noise and clutter. Who we are, what we are, how we feel and how the other people around us feel.

It is all noise. The sky is always shaded by the color of your thoughts at that moment in time. The wind does not touch your skin anymore where you can feel it resonate through your soul.

But, every now and then you are with a person for a moment that you can find that intense internal quietness.

Where you can just be.

In that moment.

You can feel the sunshine sink into your soul and heal as it penetrates to the heart.

You can feel the wind caress you as a lovers hand as your only focus is on that touch rather then anything else in the world.

As all the food and kisses that touch your lips taste of passion and peace.

And the smell of the world is centered on life, love, living, being.

Plants and Siblings

From the files of: I can’t make this stuff up

When I was a little girl, okay and even today, I never understood vegetarianism. See, I can’t comprehend why people have this whole thing about I refuse to eat meat because it is cruel to animals and they have emotions. Well of course they have emotions and I feel great sympathy for Bambi, but how can you just eat that vegetable when it also has feelings and can feel pain. As you can imagine, everyone laughed at me. I was silly. Well, yes I was silly and quite proud of it, even today. See, I knew that plants could feel pain or anger, they can hear people talking to them positively and now it has been proven they have the ability to recognize their siblings.

If nothing else, this should remind us to stop and take a second and think about how we interact with the elements around us, you never know… One day that tomato may become a Killer Tomato.

Plants recognize their siblings, biologists discover

by Jane Christmas
June 13, 2007

The next time you venture into your garden armed with plants, consider who you place next to whom. It turns out that the docile garden plant isn’t as passive as widely assumed, at least not with strangers.

Researchers at McMaster University have found that plants get fiercely competitive when forced to share their pot with strangers of the same species, but they’re accommodating when potted with their siblings.

The study appears today in the Royal Society journal Biology Letters.

“The ability to recognize and favour kin is common in animals, but this is the first time it has been shown in plants,” said Susan Dudley, associate professor of biology at McMaster University. “When plants share their pots, they get competitive and start growing more roots, which allows them to grab water and mineral nutrients before their neighbours get them. It appears, though, that they only do this when sharing a pot with unrelated plants; when they share a pot with family, they don’t increase their root growth. Because differences between groups of strangers and groups of siblings only occurred when they shared a pot, the root interactions may provide a cue for kin recognition.”

Though they lack cognition and memory, the study shows plants are capable of complex social behaviours such as altruism towards relatives, says Dudley. Like humans, the most interesting behaviours occur beneath the surface.

Dudley and her student, Amanda File, observed the behavior in sea rocket (Cakile edentula), a member of the mustard family native to beaches throughout North America, including the Great Lakes. <>So should gardeners arrange their plants like they would plan the seating at a dinner party?

“Gardeners have known for a long time that some pairs of species get along better than others, and scientists are starting to catch up with why that happens,” says Dudley. “What I’ve found is that plants from the same mother may be more compatible with each other than with plants of the same species that had different mothers. The more we know about plants, the more complex their interactions seem to be, so it may be as hard to predict the outcome as when you mix different people at a party.”

Buddhism and War

I have always thought of Buddhism as a way of life, not a religion. I mean, wars are fought over religions and religious difference, one would think that it would be impossible to fight a war over Buddhism. See, Buddhism is a way of life about getting to your higher purpose, compassion, forgiveness, and meditating and removing the emotion from the moment; it is all internal and has nothing to do with external glory, it is against external glory. But, it appears I was wrong.

I am reading a book called Buddha or Bust by Perry Garfinkle and much to my dismay, there is a war being fought over Buddhism. The Sri Lanka War is a fight between the Sinhalese (Buddhism side) and Tamils (Hindu side) and is ongoing today with propaganda on both sides and killing…

Kind of makes you question our chances for peace in the world when a whole way of life that’s whole mission in life is about peace can be in the middle of a war. But, they believe they are doing it for the right reasons.

Circular Logic

I am a huge fan of Neil Gaiman’s blogs. Not because he expounds on any fascinating subjects nor does he provide any great enlightenment. He is just a writer (a brilliant one, don’t get me wrong) who writes about his daily life and all the exciting/non exciting things he does.

Today’s blog was about him being recognized at a movie theatre, but the thing that caught me about the blog was the dialog. I fell into the moment and it was like watching a movie and I thought ‘wow, I wish I could write so brilliantly’ and then I remembered he was a writer and that is what he DOES (hmm, blondness is attacking my brain) but then I tried to think of it as someone just blogging about their day and the mundane-ness (if it wasn’t a word, it is now) of it and fell into it again like a movie.

And if you are reading this and wondering what is my point, the title of the blog is Circular Logic. Has anyone ever got stuck in one of those internal loops?

(Below, the blog copied as published… BTW, I love the fact he had misspellings and Word had issues with his grammar. See, there is hope for me yet!)

Holly and I had gone to see The Simpsons movie together. We drove back not saying anything.

After a while, Holly sighed. “You brought that on yourself, Dad. You wrote the bit in your blog today about not being recognised and not wanting to be famous. And now that happens. See?”

“I could move,” I said. “I could head off to the Scottish Highlands. Or Patagonia. I could absolutely go to Patagonia and leave no forwarding address.”

“Oh dad,” said Holly. And then she pointed out, “You aren’t allowed to vanish mysteriously until Maddy’s eighteen.”

“I could wear a hat,” I said, a bit desperately.

“It wouldn’t do any good,” she said. And she may be right. And if I brought it on myself by writing my previous blog entry then maybe if I don’t actually talk about it on this one it won’t happen again…

Job Offers, decisions, and caretaking of the soul…

Dallas, I really do hate Dallas… I don’t think there is any better way to talk about caretaking of the soul until you truly understand what the soul does not like and my soul does not like Dallas. Why? Well, it is flat, the trees are unhappy, the weather is hot and muggy and gloomy (unlike New Orleans where there is a shimmer to the air when it is hot and muggy.) The people, I could go on and on about plastic people living in boxes and I know most of you would thing, California right off the top of your head. But nope! At least in California the plastic people are interesting. These plastic people are just; well they are just… plastic.

So why am I going on and on about Dallas? I have been here almost 5 years now (January) and I have been working as a consultant, living in a hotel. The company I have been working for has made me many a job offer, but none that have been even close to tempting. They have finally put one on the table that will match what I am doing now. I should take it; I really, really should take it. But, I can’t do it. I am fine as long as I am not ‘permanent’ here, that I have my house and I know that is where I live, but, the thought of living in Dallas? Nightmares and shudders.

So, I am going to turn it down and plan on heading back to my house in Arizona at the end of the year and then plan the where do I want to go from here moment in time.

I was reading a blog over at Cabinet of wonders ( http://cabinet-of-wonders.blogspot.com/2007/07/babylon-pavement-paradises.html ) on the creation of pavement gardens and it made me smile. The thought of stepping back and being part of nature just made me peaceful and relaxed.

Tomorrow I move out of my hotel and into a friends house for the last 3 months here in Dallas, I am looking forward to it and I am also sad. I will miss my hotel and how very well they have taken care of me. After all, it has been 5 years.

Ellen Burstyn - Quote

Finally coming together.

I know that becoming conscious is a never-ending process. My prayer is that by the actual end of this life, I will exit wearing my own true face and be completely unmasked. Authenticity has been my aspiration. Whatever is in the shadow, own it, pull it into the light, and let it shine.

Thoughts in my Head

Bridge collapse in Minneapolis

I am just like everyone else in regards to this… “I have been on that bridge”. The sad part is that this could happen at any time to anyone of us. The world moves forward on a constant basis and we are constantly stretching the infrastructure we have put in place back in a time where we didn’t have the overburden of cars that we do now.

Unsafe products out of China

In today’s USA Today, there is an article that over 80% of the toys on our shelves are made in China, this was followed up by another article in regards to how the pollution from the China factories is in the ocean and the seafood we are getting off the Asian coast line. People, this is news to you? The thing that frustrates me is that over 10 years ago, USA Today (and other newspapers) were the one that were selling how amazing it was to send our manufacturing out of the country and how much money could be saved because there was no legislation. BTW, just as a note, ummmm the all mighty buck will win out over what is safe 95% of the time and the 5% of the time where someone will put a person’s safety over money? Well that is the corporation that goes bankrupt because their prices are too high. The sad part of what is continuing to go on in regards to the US’s thirst for cheap products is no lessons will be learned. The same situation is going on right now with the outsourcing of White Collar jobs to other countries. How do you expect to have people purchase things if no one is working? Sorry, this is a huge soap box item for me!

When good things happen to bad people

I read this turn of phrase and it has gotten stuck in my head and repeats itself over and over again. It is something I have always wondered about and so here I am writing about my experiences around this subject.

Have you ever met someone who is just an ugly person? They are abrasive or verbally abusive and yet they hold jobs or positions of power, they get the money and never seem to get reprimanded. Deep down, they just have an ugly soul and never a kind word. But there they are, moving forward through life, untouched by any negativity or any reprimands. But, then you turn around and meet the nicest person, kind and giving. But, they have a hard time getting respect or acknowledgment.

I once met a sales person, they were all friendly and happy and everyone loved them. Did it matter that they just ripped you off of some money? No, they are cheerful and my friend. Did it matter that they just made a deal where they lied and financially hurt someone who didn’t have the money to be ripped off like that? Nope, what happens to that person doesn’t affect me and they are really quite charming. But, but… They just did… sigh, I guess it really doesn’t matter because they make you laugh…

I know this girl, she is manipulative to those around them, she plays the victim card and she has a very abrasive personality. But, she gets all the attention and what she wants because if she doesn’t she will be emotionally hurt and cause a scene and play the victim. Must take care of the victim. Does it matter that she is a user of people and a black hole of emotions? No, she will always get what she wants where as the caretakers of the world are just taken advantage of…

Sometimes, I wonder… Why are we as a society more likely to reward the bad people than the good people in the world?
